I built a bracket to add navigation to the steering column of my
mountain bike and modeled the parts in SolidWorks.

This page demonstrates SolidWorks and Pro/Engineer CAD modeling
with screenshots of 3D part construction, engineering drawings,
and assembly animation.

I compared hand calculations for structural stress on loaded trusses
to Finite Element Analysis beam models. An example of a sheet metal
analysis is included.

I received the Outstanding Senior Project award for the best mechanical
engineering design project of the year at Cal Poly. The project
involved
design, construction, and testing of a steel trailer chassis. I
performed finite
element strength analysis and developed 3-D CAD models to select
material
and size structural members. The theoretical performance was compared
to
real-time field measurements recorded using a data-logger interfaced
with
strain-gages, accelerometers, and bridging circuitry.

Working in a team I contributed to building an electronically controlled
vehicle to navigate an obstacle course and retrieve objects. In
9 weeks we designed and built the chassis, developed circuitry,
and programmed a microcontroller to operate all of the vehicle's
systems. In addition to the control systems design and programming,
this task required lot of metal work in the machine shop.
We used Pro/E to model CNC cut parts, a sheet metal bender and
hand mill to make the ramp, and a lathe to make wheels.

This is a preliminary model for a valve. The objective is to leak-proof
a waterpack bladder system and to make the bladder easy to fill
from a water line or portable hand pump/water filter.

With Pro/ENGINEER Mechanica, I performed a finite element vibration
analysis (FEA) to verify findings published in an engineering journal.
The
project assesses the use of radial channels in circular disks for
computer
hard drives to increase the resonant frequencies of recording media..

This is a program that finds positions for all parts of a machine
corresponding to the movement of a driven element. I ported the
code from QBASIC to VB and added graphical interface controls.
